BECOMING A VOLUNTEER

To help us better understand your suitability and ensure that volunteering with us will be a mutually beneficial experience, we have a few steps we like to follow. Please rest assured that all of these stages are meant to be informal and relaxed.

1

Application Form

This is your chance to give us a comprehensive picture of your background, interests, and motivations for volunteering. The more detail you provide, the better we’ll be able to determine whether we should proceed with an informal chat. This helps ensure we’re only moving forward if we feel there’s a good potential fit for both you and us.

Initial Chat

If your application is shortlisted, we will invite you to an initial virtual chat. This will usually be a short video call, and having your camera on is important to help us verify your identity. It’s a great opportunity for us to get to know each other and for you to learn more about us.

Informal Interview

If the informal chat goes well and it feels like a good fit, you may then be invited to a follow-up interview involving a senior member of our team and/or the Project Manager. This step allows us to discuss the role in greater detail and ensure the position aligns with both our needs and your expectations. If successful, we’ll provide you with more information on the next steps, including formal registration, DBS check, induction, and training.

TESTIMONIALS

Volunteering with Advice Mid Wales has been really important to me. It keeps my mind active and challenges me in ways I didn’t expect. I’ve learned a lot, picked up new skills, and gained more confidence, which has given me a real sense of purpose. But what I value most is probably the chance to meet other volunteers and form some great friendships along the way.

I’ve been volunteering at AMW for five years now, and it’s been a really rewarding experience. I helped with a huge variety of cases over the years, everything from benefits and fuel issues to consumer rights and problems with local authorities. I don’t always have the answers straight away, but we do our best to find a solution as a team. When we succeed, it genuinely feels amazing, not just for the client but for us as volunteers as well.

What I love most about volunteering here is that, after nearly 30 years, the goal hasn’t changed! I am still helping people in the community to help themselves. These days, a lot of older people feel overwhelmed by the system, especially as everything seems to be online now. But when I see the relief on someone’s face after a successful appeal or application, that’s what makes volunteering worth it for me. It’s moments like that that keep me coming back. And of course, I couldn’t do it without the incredible team atmosphere we have!
